Senator Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar has been elected as the interim prime minister of Pakistan, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said on Saturday.

The much-anticipated announcement comes after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and outgoing Leader of the Opposition (NA) Raja Riaz agreed on Kakar's name for the post.

According to the press release issued by the PMO, Prime Minister Shehbaz and Riaz have sent advice to President Alvi regarding the appointment of Kakar as caretaker prime minister.

Earlier, after meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz, Riyaz also confirmed this while talking to the media outside the Prime Minister's House.

"We had earlier decided that the caretaker prime minister should be someone from a small province. We reached a consensus that Anwarul Haq Kakar will be the caretaker prime minister," Riaz said.

"I had given this name and the Prime Minister has agreed to this name ... I and the Prime Minister have signed the summary," he told reporters, Kakar yesterday (Sunday). ) will be sworn in as the head of the interim setup.

Riaz further said that the caretaker cabinet was not discussed in the meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz today.

 Talks regarding Caretaker Prime Minister

Speaking to journalists in Islamabad yesterday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had expressed his belief that the name of the head of the interim setup would be finalized by Saturday.

He also hosted a dinner for the leaders of the outgoing ruling coalition last night during which he held a second round of consultations with the opposition leader.

A day after the premature dissolution of the National Assembly, the first meeting was held at the Prime Minister's House on Friday.

Sources familiar with the current political situation told Dawn that the delay in the nomination of caretaker prime minister was apparently because Raja Riaz, who was generally considered a "friendly opposition leader", emerged as a different man, as He was insisting on his position. Instead of agreeing to the names suggested by the PML-N, the candidates.

Sources say that the leader of Muslim League (N) Nawaz Sharif, through Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was insisting on electing former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar as caretaker Prime Minister and if Dar is not, then former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi should be elected.

However, Riaz, without the support of a political party defected from the PTI, was taking dictation from another power corridor and was insisting on the name of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, sources claimed. Sanjrani met Dar and Ahsan Iqbal besides Riaz on Friday.

The feud between the President and the Prime Minister has come to the fore again

Meanwhile, the bad blood between President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz came to light on Friday when the former prime minister wrote a letter to the prime minister, requesting that he name a caretaker prime minister within the next 24 hours.

President Alvi remembered that he had dissolved the National Assembly on August 9 on the Prime Minister's advice in a letter to Mr. Riaz and Prime Minister Shehbaz on Friday.

According to his writing, the President selects the Caretaker Prime Minister in accordance with Article 224 (1A) of the Constitution after consulting with the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. Within three days of the dissolution of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the departing National Assembly are required by Article 224A of the Constitution to suggest a candidate for the office of caretaker Prime Minister.

President Alvi then directed Prime Minister Shehbaz and Riaz to propose the name of the interim prime minister "not later than" August 12.

However, talking to journalists later, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his displeasure over the letter and said that he still has eight days left to work as the prime minister. There is no knowledge about as mentioned in the constitution.
